Do you think hate crimes should receive a harsher penalty than regular crimes? For example, assaults. Both are bad, but if one is hate fuelled, for whatever reason, race, sexuality, then should that be a factor in a harsher sentencing?

I think yes. Don't really have any greatly worded reason behind it just think it's right.

I don't know. At least they have a reason even if it is a bad one. It's the mindless evil assaults that are scary, unpredictable.

I don't think it should. Whether you're killing someone because they cheated on you, or because they're too gay, it's still just premeditated murder. Doesn't make sense to say that it's worse to kill someone for one reason than another.

I think if we continue down the road we have been, where it seems that there are almost constantly new crimes that can be considered as hate crimes, eventually "everything" will be considered as one and we'll effectively end up back where we started before these came into play.

Therefore I have to agree with Tim.
